How do I link/unlink an operation to/from a BOM node ?

In the implicit BOM variant model, an operation is assigned a percentage of occurrence in the total production, by linking it to a BOM node. The following explains how operations are linked to variants in the implicit model only. In the explicit variant model, each operation belongs to one or more variants (see here how to assign operations to explicit variants).

To link/unlink operations to/from BOM nodes, display the Operations Tab, and activate if necessary the variant display mode, by clicking the Variant Button in the toolbar. In variant display mode, each operation is marked with the variant BOM node it is linked to, or is colored light gray and unmarked if it appears in all variants (100% of the production), as in the following figure.

Operations and Variants in Implicit (BOM) Mode

In the figure, the operation "Scholl70" and the other operations colored green are linked to the BOM node "Sony 32": their percentage of occurrence in the total production is equal to the final percentage of the node "Sony 32" in the BOM graph. The operation "Scholl100" and the other operations colored white are linked to the Bom node "Sanyo 28", the black operations ("Scholl71" etc.) are linked to the BOM node "Teletext Yes", and the operation "Scholl91" (blue) is linked to the BOM node "Lang Western". The operation "Scholl45" and the other operations colored light gray are not linked to any BOM node: they are not variant operations, i.e., they appear in every product being assembled on the line (100% of the production).

To link one or more operations to a BOM node, simply select the operation(s) and right-click one of them. The popup menu that appears lists all nodes in the BOM graph, by their category: the "Root variants" submenu lists all root nodes in the BOM graph, "Regular variant" lists all leaf nodes, and "Inverse variants" lists all inverse (complement) nodes, if any, in the BOM graph. Selecting one of the nodes in the popup menu links the selected operation(s) to that node in the BOM: the percentage of occurrence of the operation(s) in the production is made equal to the final percentage of the BOM node. Selecting the "All (100%)" option in the popup unlinks the selected operation(s) from any BOM node - the operation becomes a non-variant one, i.e. appearing in all products being assembled on the line.

The color used to represent operations linked to a given BOM node is selectable in the BOM dialog.
